Event description

The Hindu festival of Govardhan Pooja commemorates a childhood leela of Shree Krishna.  This is the day when Krishna convinced his father and the elders of his village to perform pooja of Govardhan hill instead of worshiping the celestial god Indra.  To honor the faith of the Braj wasis, Krishna appeared on top of the hill in the form of Giriraj Maharaj (the personified form of Govardhan hill) and ate all of the food that had been offered.  When Indra saw that the Braj wasis had been convinced by a “little boy” to stop worshiping Him, his pride was hurt and he wanted to assert his power. So, Indra poured torrential rains on Brajwasis for 7 days. To protect them, Krishna lifted Govardhan hill on the little finger of His left hand making Indra realize that his power was nothing compared to Lord Krishna, who is supreme God HImself.

At Radha Govind Dham, to commemorate this day,  Chappn bhog (56 dishes) are prepared for offering Giriraj Maharaj. A joyful parikrama is performed of Govardhan Hill while singing Bhajans celebrating the greatness of Govardhan Hill and Shree Krishna.

A Delicious Mahaprasad will be served at Lunch.  Bring your entire family to enjoy this lively celebration. Bring a dish of your choice and Join us this day to honor Giriraj Maharaj.
